Claude Max subscribers now have a monthly API budget to put toward their own apps. Max 5x includes $100 in credits; Max 20x includes $200. Anthropic announced the benefit on October 7, alongside Haiku 5.5, and Team plans also receive a pooled allowance. Anthropic's announcement positions the credits as support for building applications and agents on the Claude Platform.

For an existing subscriber with an unfinished app idea, that makes the next step worth taking: check your eligibility, link the right organization, and try one small workflow. Here is what to know before you start.

How much API credit does Claude Max include?

SubscriptionMonthly API allowance
Max 5x$100
Max 20x$200
TeamA shared pool of up to $500

These are API credits attached to an eligible paid subscription, not a cash refund or a reduction in the subscription price. Anthropic says the allowance can be used across its available Claude models, rather than being limited to Haiku. See the launch announcement for the original offer.

How to claim your Claude API credits

Your Max or Team plan must have been active for at least seven days. Free, Pro and Enterprise plans are excluded. You claim through the web, including when you subscribed on mobile.

  1. Open Claude's billing settings. Team owners use organization billing.
  2. Find API credits and select Link organization.
  3. Choose or create the Console organization that should receive them.
  4. Read the credit terms and confirm the link.

Max subscribers can claim directly. For Team, an Owner or Primary Owner must do it. Your Console role must be Owner, Admin or Billing. No Console payment card is required.

Choose carefully: each plan links to one organization, and changing that link requires support. These steps and eligibility rules come from Anthropic's credit guide.

Will this give you more Claude Code usage?

It does not raise your Claude chat or interactive Claude Code limits. Extra usage and third-party cloud platforms are excluded. Self-run Agent SDK or claude -p requests can use credits with the linked organization's API key; subscription-authenticated runs use plan limits instead. See the usage distinctions before switching authentication.

Check billing before your first experiment

The monthly allowance is spent before purchased credits. Unused monthly credits expire at the billing-cycle boundary, so they do not accumulate into a larger balance.

When the allowance is exhausted, an organization with purchased credits can keep spending those. Auto-reload can buy more automatically. Without remaining credits, prepaid API requests stop; organizations on invoiced billing follow their billing arrangement. Check the balance and auto-reload settings in the Console before you run a scheduled job. Anthropic's API billing guide explains these payment rules.

Our recommendation: give your first experiment a small budget of its own. A monthly allowance is a useful starting point, but it is not a reason to leave an unattended agent running without limits.

Three useful things to build first

You do not need a general-purpose assistant to learn whether an idea works. Start with a task whose output you can judge in a minute.

A changelog reader. Give it a release note and ask for the changes that affect your app. Require a source link for each finding. Test whether it distinguishes a breaking change from a cosmetic update.

A feedback sorter. Use a small set of anonymized product feedback. Ask it to group requests and attach the original comments to each theme. Check whether the grouping helps you make a product decision before adding integrations.

A document extractor. Pick one repeatable document type and a short list of fields. Compare the output against answers you have checked yourself. Include incomplete documents so you can see whether the app leaves missing values empty or invents them.

These are suggested experiments, not benchmarks or claims about how many tasks the allowance will cover. Model choice, input length, output length and repeated calls affect the cost.

Measure one workflow before you expand it

Run a small batch of representative examples. Record the cost, the result and whether you would trust it without editing. Include a few awkward inputs, not just the examples that made the prototype look good.

Then ask three questions: Did it save time? Which mistakes matter? Would you still run it if you were paying for every request? That gives you a better next step than trying to spend the entire balance.

If the experiment needs a tool connection, browse the directory's MCP servers. When you have something useful to share, launch your app so other Claude builders can try it.
